Mathare United have parted ways with eight players as they plan for the beginning of the 2025/26 Kenya Premier League season.

In a communique Tuesday, the club stated that Daniel Odhiambo, Starlon Odhiambo, Henry Oballa, Steve Njunge, Erickson Mulu, Godfrey Rabar, Eugene Mukangula, and Michael Wanyika would all be leaving the club come season's end.

Under head coach John Kamau, Mathare United finished the 2024/25 top flight season in 10th-place, collecting 42 points from 10 wins, 12 draws, and 12 defeats. Despite a season that could be classified as successful, considering they did not face relegation coming their way, the former Thika United coach is not taking chances with selection.

"Mathare United expresses gratitude to the departing players for their contributions and wishes them well in their future endeavors, the statement from the slum boys read.

Kamau, speaking at the end of last season, stated that he would make changes to his squad to ensure a competitive 2025/26 season.

"In football changes are common and a must in squad development. We hope to improve next season so we will review performances and decide, he said in the aftermath of the KPL season.

The experienced Mukangula, formerly at AFC Leopards, has been released following the expiry of his short term deal signed in the January transfer window. Mulu, a fullback will also leave the club following the expiry of his deal.

Goalkeepers Njunge joined from Nairobi City Stars while Wanyika was brought in from Ulinzi Stars and they also pave way for changes at the club that is slowly recovering from the death of its founder and patron Bob Munro, who died in January this year.
